1. 3. Physical Standards. (a) Height & weight. Minimum height Male – 157 cm, Female – 152 cm with correlated weight as per age and
height.
(b) Eye sight. The minimum acceptable vision standards for distance is 6/60, 6/60 correctable to 6/6, 6/12 with
glasses. Should not be colour / night blind.
(c) Tattoo. Permanent body tattoos are not permitted on any part of the body, however, certain concessions are
permitted to candidates belonging to tribal areas communities as declared by the Government of India. For other
candidates permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to wrist and
on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. Details in this regard are available on the naval recruitment

Note: There will be no relaxation in Physical Standards.

4. Pay Scale & Promotions. The promotion from Sub Lieutenant to Commander is based on courses, sea time &
medical. The Pay Scale and promotion criteria are as follows (being revised as per 7th CPC):-

5. Allowances (as applicable). The rates of allowances applicable to officers are as follows (being revised as per 7th

6. Cost to Company (CTC). The CTC for a Sub Lieutenant would be approximately Rs. Rs 72,444/- to 81,700/- per
month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay, Military Service Pay, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance,
Ration Allowance and kit Maintenance Allowance. These rates are likely to increase post implementation of 7th CPC.
7. Privileges. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Navy provides free medical facilities for self & dependents,
LTC, Canteen Facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess/Club/Sports facilities, Furnished Govt Accommodation, Car / Housing
Loan at subsidised rate.
8. Group Insurance & Gratuity. Insurance cover of Rs. 75 lakhs (on contribution). Gratuity will be granted to the
officer as per the latest rules in force. These rates are likely to increase post implementation of 7th CPC.
9. Leave Entitlements. On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual leave and 20 days casual leave, every
year (subject to service exigencies). Leave during training period will be as per the extant Training Policy in force.
They are also entitled for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and dependents.
10. Sports & Adventure. The Navy provides facilities to play various sports. One can also learn and participate in
adventure sports, such as river rafting, mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, wind surfing etc.
SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION
11. Short Service Commission is granted initially for 12 years extendable further for two years. Officers
inducted under these schemes will not be given extension beyond 14 years.
12. Duties of Officer. Please visit website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in for information on duties of officers for
respective branches/cadre.
13. Selection Procedure. The selection procedure is as follows:-
(a) SSB interviews for short listed candidates will be scheduled from Jun 17 to Aug 17 at Bangalore/
Bhopal/ Coimbatore/ Visakhapatnam. Shortlisted candidates will be informed about their selection for
SSB interview on their e-mail or through SMS (provided by candidates in their application form).
(b) The total duration of SSB interviews is five days consisting of two Stages- Stage I (Day one) and
Stage II (Four days). Stage I test consisting of Intelligence Test, Picture Perception and Discussion test
will be conducted on the first day of arrival at SSB. Candidates who fail to qualify in Stage I will be routed
back on the same day. Stage II tests comprising of Psychological testing, Group testing and Interview
will last for 04 days. Successful candidates will thereafter undergo Medical Examination (approx duration
03-05 days).
(c) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit will be appointed for training as per
all India merit depending on the number of vacancies.
(d) Any correspondence regarding change of SSB dates be addressed to the call up officer of the SSB
on receipt of call up letter. Change of SSB Centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstance.
(e) Ministry of Defence (Navy) reserves the right to short-list applications and to fix cut off percentage.
No communication will be entertained on this account.
(f) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained to a candidate during SSB tests.
(g) Return First Class (AC 3 tier/AC Chair Car), rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview, if appearing
for the first time for that type of commission on production of railway tickets. Candidates will carry
photocopy of the first page of pass book or cheque leaf where the name, A/C No & IFSC details are
mentioned, while appearing for SSB.
TRAINING
14. Candidates will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant. The training is tentatively
scheduled to commence in the month of Jan 18 at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala followed by professional
training at various Naval Training Establishments/Units/Ships. Full Pay and allowances are admissible to the
Officers whilst undergoing training.
Note
(a) Only unmarried candidates are eligible to undergo training. Any candidate found married or who
marries while undergoing training will be discharged. He/ She shall be liable to refund full pay and
allowances drawn by him/her and other expenditure incurred on the candidate by the Government.
(b) The Officers shall be on probation for a period of two years or till he/she successfully completes
his/her initial training, whichever is later. The probation period will start from the date of reporting or
commencement of training at Indian Naval Academy, whichever is later. During the probationary period,
their services are liable to be terminated on Professional/Medical/Disciplinary grounds without any
monetary benefits.
(c) If an officer voluntarily withdraws from initial training, or resigns during the probationary period,
he/she shall be required to refund the cost of training in whole or in part and all money received by
him/her as pay and allowances from the Government together with the interest on the said money
calculated at the rate in force for Government loans at that time.
HOW TO APPLY
15. Candidates are to register and fill application on the recruitment website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in
The candidates are to apply online from 01 Apr 17 to 20 Apr 17.
16. Online (e-application). Whilst filling up the e-application, it is advisable to keep the relevant
documents readily available to enable the following:-
(a) Correct filling up of personal particulars. Details are to be filled up as given in the Matriculation
Certificate.
(b) Fields such as e-mail address, mobile number are mandatory fields and need to be filled.
(c) All relevant documents preferably in original [Mark sheets of all semesters, Date of birth proof (as per
10th/12th certificate), Mark sheet of 12th standard, CGPA Conversion formula for BE/B Tech] and a recent
size colour photograph should be scanned in original in JPG/FIIT format, respectively for attaching the
same while filling up the application. If any scanned document is not legible / readable for any reason,
the application will be rejected.
